( BW)(WAVERIDER-COMMUNICATIONS)(WAVC) WaveRider
Communications Inc. Announces New Wireless Product Linking LANs to
the Internet

Business Editors

TORONTO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 2, 1998--

NCL 135 Designed to Meet LAN Users Demands for High-Speed,
Affordable Wireless Internet Access

WaveRider Communications Inc.(OTCBB:WAVC), a leading developer of wireless Internet
access solutions, announced today the introduction of a new wireless product linking LANs to the
Internet.
The WaveRider NCL 135, supporting the Ethernet 802.3 protocol, will allow Internet Service
Providers to link their customers' Local Area Networks (LANs) to the Internet at speeds up to
1.544 MBPS. Alternatively, businesses with direct Internet connectivity will be able to use the
NCL 135 as a cost-effective wireless bridge linking multiple LANs to the Internet.
Technology for the NCL 135 directly resulted from WaveRider's ongoing development of its
Last Mile Solution(TM) 270 system, a complete Metropolitan Area Wireless Network for
high-speed Internet access.
"Discussions with customers convinced us that the introduction of the NCL 135 would provide
our future LMS 270 customers with advanced entry into the high-speed wireless Internet access
market," said Charles Brown, WaveRider's vice-president, marketing.
"While the LMS 270 is designed to wirelessly link thousands of end users to the Internet, via
service providers, using a point to multi-point cellular network, the NCL 135 targets businesses
needing point to point LAN to Internet connectivity. The NCL 135 will be fully upgradable to the
full LMS 270 in the future."
Furthermore, the rapid development and introduction of the NCL provides significant advantages
in the continuing development of the LMS 270. With customer trials of its NCL 135 technology
scheduled for this summer, the company's development engineers can implement customer
feedback into the LMS 270, maintaining, if not advancing, its production and shipment schedule set
for later this year.
Founded in 1997, WaveRider is a leading wireless technology company that develops,
manufactures and markets products for data communications and wireless Local Area Network
(LAN) applications. WaveRider's high performance products use frequency-hopping, spread
spectrum technology coupled with time division multiple access techniques and operate in the
license-free 900MHz and 2.4GHz ISM frequency bands.
