US WEST- ADSL..........cable..........ISDN

Us West has different services for ADSL, depending on the speed.

For 250 mhz/s = $45/month --this would be competitive to cable.

For 550mhz/s = $65/month

Even faster speeds for more money. However, I think you have to
still pay $20 to you ISP on top of these super fast phone lines, which is more money than cable - I think Roadrunner charges $40/month
and that includes the ISP. Cable is years away in my area. What is real funny is that US WEST charges double for ISDN and that is just 128 K. Go figure.

56k modems will soon no longer be a standard component. By Christmas 99, Intel and Microsoft want all computers to come equiped with
ADSL modems if I recall correctly. As a result, some investors
have been positioning themselves in the various ADSL modem makers.

these are round-about figures from a 2 month memory of reading it
in my newspaper. I think they even provide the modem. If not,
the modems are relatively inexpensive.

CONNECT AT DOUBLE SPEED

IF YOU HAVE TWO PHONE LINES AND ARE LOOKING FOR A
QUICK WAY TO GET FASTER Internet connections, consider the
$49 WebRamp PC from Ramp Networks (888 726-7638 or 408
988-5353). The software allows a Windows 95 PC to connect at
nearly double speed by combining two modems. Of course, you'll
need a second modem and a second account with your Internet
service provider (though some ISPs allow multiple simultaneous
connections for an additional charge).

Diamond Multimedia offers a technology called Shotgun that also
uses two modems with a single computer. But unlike WebRamp, it
will only work with ISPs specifically set up for it.
