Alex,

I'm a strong advocate of saving and investing wisely (Like who isn't?). Nonetheless, when evaluating cpq please remember the following facts:
(1) 87% of all stocks outperformed cpq in the first three months of this year;
(2) Merrill Lynch, one of the largest brokerages in the country had a 12 month price target for cpq of 50 in early January of this year. Later to be dropped to 40. ML is currently keeping quiet as far as cpq is concerned (undoubtedly thoroughly embarrassed by their lack of diligent investigation);
(3) Many seasoned stock pickers are of the opinion that the DEC deal is a short term albatross vis-a-vis cpq;
(4) A disproportionate number of cpq shares are controlled by institutions. In other words you will make money when the institutions add to their holdings of cpq and you will lose money when the institutions reduce their holdings of cpq.

Consider the above four items in conjunction with your thorough financial analysis of cpq (which others will probably have to help you with).

Oh yea, I almost forgot! Remember, neither management, financial analysts, nor other so-called experts will give you the straight scoop on cpq or any other stock for that matter. They will all lie, if doing so serves their own best interest. Never forget that point. They will all lie, if the truth hurts! Good Luck!

I would say you are too old to gamble. Being 12 years old , Alex has a lot of
time. Time is money. If you buy 100 shares of MSFT 10 years ago, it is now worth
more than
three millions, so being 12 years of age, alex can hold his CPQ for at least 60 years,
so, do your calculation. The older you are, the risky it is for you to gamble, since your
time to hold the stocks is limitted.

I would say the key word is "IF". If you bet the ranch on the Broncos, if you owned Snapple a couple years ago, if you owned Intel in '96, If you were 7'6" and played in the NBA, If is exactly that, meaningless. If is 20/20 all the time, its speculative and a 12 year old should not be asking strangers questions over the web, you have to analyze investments for yourself. MSFT is 1 stock out of how many, what if he bought Starter (sym:STA) or Casino Magic(CMAG), to point out MSFT 10 years ago is a STUPID comment.
And if you figure out how to "buy" MSFT 10 years ago, let me know. I will assume you mean BOUGHT.
