Pappy, can you help this poor ol' farmer understand a few points re Novatec?

1. Novatec is an ablative laser. For hyperopia, what technique is Novatec currently using to LENGTHEN the eye when the effect of its laser is to remove cells? Is it creating a trough around the cornea similar to what has been attempted with the excimer lasers? If so, what has been the healing response?

2. What level of skill will be required of the opthamologist performing the procedure to correct hyperopia with the Novatec laser? Will it be only the very elite Drs. that can perform it or will virtually any Dr. be able to perform the procedure?

3. The Novatec Web site indicates that it is in Phase IIa trials for myopia. What is the projected time table for the hyperopia trials (start and completion) with the Novatec laser?

4. What are your thoughts as to how the evolution of the Implantable Contact Lens (ICL) will affect the market for ablative lasers in the myopia market?

5. Will there be a software add-on required to do hyperopia with the Novatec laser and, if so, how expensive will it be.

6. When does the FDA permit the fellow eye to be treated with the Novatec laser?

7. What has been the rate (i.e., patients per month) that have been signing up to participate in the Novatec trials.

Thank you for your insights into these issues.

Best regards.
Greg
