John, they are both great. Just make sure you go to a reputable breeder. Your best bet is to find a breeder who shows animals, and get a "pet quality" animal. Avoid animals sold in pet shops -- you'd just be asking for trouble. Dobermans are marvelously affectionate, loyal and sweet. Mine sleep in my bed with me, along with two Birman cats and my wife if she can find the room!
