TALX Forms Partnership With GatesMcDonald

GatesMcDonald to Offer The Work Number

ST. LOUIS--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 15, 1998--TALX Corp. (NASDAQ: TALX - news), a provider
of software and services, and GatesMcDonald, a leading employee benefit cost management firm, have
formed a partnership so that GatesMcDonald can offer its clients The Work Number(R), the automated
employment and salary verification service TALX introduced in 1995.

''We believe the Work Number offers a unique value-added service to our customers,'' commented Richard
H. Hoyt, Vice President, GatesMcDonald. ''Among our client base, automated employment and salary
verification is a service that's in demand. We believe The Work Number is a solution that offers more benefits
to our clients than trying to either automate the process themselves or manually handle verification requests,''
he said.

''As a sales partner, GatesMcDonald now can provide their clients the ability to outsource all employment
and salary verifications to TALX using The Work Number national service,'' said Bill Canfield, president and
CEO of TALX. ''Because of GatesMcDonald's strong management and its successful penetration of the
Fortune 500 corporate market, we view GatesMcDonald as a key player in our distribution strategy for The
Work Number,'' Canfield said.

''The synergy created by this partnership is exciting,'' commented Gary Been, TALX national product
director. ''For large employers, employment and salary verification is a low-visibility task that drains
administrative resources,'' he said. ''It's an honor for TALX that The Work Number is now the solution
recommended by cost containment experts GatesMcDonald,'' he said.

Typically, when a bank needs to verify that a loan applicant's employment and salary information is consistent
with what appears on the loan application, the bank contacts the employer. Companies that employ thousands
of people are deluged with such requests for information and incur administrative costs to process these
requests. The Work Number service offers employers an automated solution by allowing companies to feed
their payroll records into a national database. With appropriate security clearances, banks and other
organizations can access the database automatically to verify the information.

Twenty-four of the Fortune 100 are users of The Work Number. Organizations that outsource employment
and salary verification to TALX include: Hewlett-Packard, JC Penney, Microsoft, Motorola, PeopleSoft,
Procter & Gamble, Quaker Oats, Sears Roebuck & Co., Sun Microsystems, Tenet Healthcare and
Wal-Mart Stores, the nation's largest corporate employer. The payroll records of these employers are
combined on one national database of nearly 20 million records -- including data about current and former
employees.

More information about The Work Number can be obtained by calling 1-800-888-8277 or by visiting the
website theworknumber.com or sending an email to moreinfo@talx.com.

Work Number

Gibbens, Leading Benefits Cost Containment Firm, to Offer Automated Salary
Verification

TALX, Gibbens can now offer its clients The Work Number, the automated employment and salary
verification service TALX began marketing to large employers in 1995.

''We are thrilled with the opportunities and synergy we expect will result from this partnership,'' noted Bill
Canfield, president and CEO of TALX. ''Gibbens is an experienced and trusted advisor to benefits managers

in the marketplace,'' he added.

''Gibbens clients already understand the strategic value of outsourcing,'' commented Gary Been, TALX

employment and salary. Companies that employ thousands of people are deluged with such requests for
