OK, here is the deal direct from DBC for the "free" Level II:

StockEdge Online fee: $79
NASDAQ Exchange fee: $ 4
Monthly exchange fee: $50
Monthly DBC fee: $50
Total: $183/month

If you are a prepaid customer of StockEdge Online (paid for an entire year of the service) then they waive the $50 per month DBC fee. You still have to pay the monthly exchange fee for level II. Total is then $133/month. If you open an account with Dreyfus, they will refund $75/month if you make just 5 trades. Total is then $58/month.

This is probably the least expensive avenue to getting Level II that is out there.

By the way, Dreyfus trades usually execute in about 15 to 20 seconds, online. Commission is $15/trade. Not bad.

Dreyfus also treats you well. They were having trouble with their NASDAQ connection a month ago. One of my online trades didn't execute for 4 HOURS! When it did go through the price was $25.50 instead of $27.75. I called and they gave me the ASK price that was indicated when I submitted the order which was $27.875. I think they must have eaten the difference. That's service!

I've recently decided to open an account with MB Trading to do my daytrading. Instead of closing my Dreyfus account and transferring my money, I'll make do with a smaller balance in the MB account and keep my Dreyfus account for long term investments and still trade with them periodically to reward them for their years of excellent service.

But I plan to close my StockEdge Online account because it would be redundant with the MB Trading capability.
