Intel probably wants to hedge their bets with ALpha production, especially since current guestimates of Merced volume are late 99 to mid 2000. But recall the article 2 days ago by DEC exec Harry Copperman stating that DEC has another fab partner lined up for Alpha. I don't think CPQ wants to propose pushing Alpha without a non-intel controlled source of quality chips.
