Jules,
Thanks for the reference. Good news indeed! Good to see Barrett showing a little positive swagger for a change. Me thinks with all of the estimates for 98 and 99 going down the past few weeks, Intel stock shows favorable downside/upside reward. I also think that many are forgetting about Intel's high-end business (e.g. the Slot II on-slaught in a few months).

I emailed CNBC expressing concerns over the negative coverage they
have been giving Intel. They have not cared to respond. May be everyone on this board that shares my opinion about negative coverage should email info@cnbc.com and express their concerns and demand a response.

Thanks

Jules. Re: Barrett's optimistic outlook. Why would anyone want to talk about good news and Intel in the same breath, when they can pile on with the other naysayers? Schadenfreude is so so satisfying; people can't resist.

My view on the 1Q downturn and it's just an educated hunch, is that we are in the midst of a sizeable inventory shrink in the channel. Not just CPQ, but a lot of unbranded box makers have more inventory as the top 4 gain share, and the weak sisters lose share and are stuck with more inventory. Intel thought this correction would be over in the 4Q, then came CPQ's announcement in 1Q.

IMHO it could take 'til the 2nd half before lower inventory levels are reached and Intel can start posting gains over last year.

Also, don't you think that the closer we get to '99, the more companies will have to solve their Y2K problems with new hardware 'cause they ran out of time to do a software fix?
