Colin, why is it 10c a mile? Is that a special rate for health driving? Why isn't the 29.5c a mile ... or whatever the current business rate is?

f an individual is using there own money to help a parent pay for medical expenses, nursing home care etc. Can that be deducted on Schedule A?...

Mileage ? $.10 per mile or actual expense>>>>>

what constitutes 50% support.......i suspect since my grandmothers estate is paying for nusing care any expenses my parents incur would not be deductible.......including mileage????
my mom drives almost everyday to grandmother, buy her clothes incidentals, brings her over the house to visit...........does that contitute mileage????

god the rules are tuff to follow...hear is what i copied out of IRS pub.

You can include in medical expenses the cost of medical care in a nursing home or home for the aged for yourself, your spouse, or your dependents. This includes the cost of meals and lodging in the home if the main reason for being there is to get medical care.

Do not include the cost of meals and lodging if the reason for being in the home is personal. You can, however, include in medical expenses the part of the cost that is for medical or nursing care.
