Stet-Telecom (ME:TIT) wins Brazil cellular license

Reuters, Friday, April 03, 1998 at 07:52

BRASILIA, April 3 (Reuters) - A group including Italy's
Stet-Telecom Italia (MILAN:TIT) on Friday won a license to provide
Band B cellular services in Brazil's Minas Gerais state, the
Communications Ministry said.
The Vicunha group, which also comprises Brazil's Vicunha
industrial group, Bradesco bank (SAO:BBD) and Globo
Participacoes, bid 520 million reais for the 15-year
concession, the ministry said.
The winning bid for the Band B area No. 4 concession was 30
percent above the minimum price of 400 million reais.
It beat out another offer by Brascom group, including
U.S.-based Southwestern Bell (NYSE:SBC), Germany's Mannesmann
(FSE:MMWG) Eurokom, Brazil's Andrade Gutierrez and Monteiro
Aranha, which bid 450 million reais.
In terms of cellular phone charges, the winning consortium
offered 57.36 reais per basket of cellular calls, compared to
Brascom's offer of 60.92 reais.
Vicunha group already has won a Band B concession covering
the northeastern states of Bahia and Sergipe.
Stet-Telecom Italia holds 43 percent of the consortium,
followed by Vicunha textile group with 37 percent and a venture
between Globo Participacoes and Bradesco bank with 20 percent.
The concession for Minas Gerais state was the third granted
by the federal government since it restarted its Band B sale
process this week after a seven-month gap.

SF: I too am amazed at the stock action...I closed out the leap position today and kept a nice profit and opened up a short length call position hoping to play a bounce, as I'm sure you were contemplating. (bought the april 120's) I hope the party hasn't ended at these low stock prices..this stock is so incredibly cheap!!!
