Good point. Implicit in my assumption was that only a small portion of the $10 trillion in Japanese savings need be spent in order to make a difference, and that a 20% or so reduction in prices would ferret out that required portion. If you are implying that the Japanese consumer will spend at no price(except zero<g>) then neither my plan nor anyone else's is going to work. I think that maybe that's what Dr Friedman was hinting at in yesterday's Red Alert ( stratfor.com ). The way that I read it, his only concern now is figuring out what the final outcome of this mess is going to be. One thing is for sure IMO, and that is we are going to have some spectacular opportunities for profit if we can time our investments right. In other words, volatility, here we come.
