Mike, the historians like to criticize the politicians for turning to protectionism in the 30's . It will be interesting to see how much the U.S. is willing to do to let Asia try to export their way out of their mess. I also wonder how long the $ can hold up with record trade deficits the next few Q's . Wall St, as usual, will say Asia will recover in the future. The promised recovery in Japan hasn't materialized. The new promise will be that the U.S. will teach the Japanese how to consume american style so Asia can consume its way to recovery. trouble is we get away with much more because we have the worlds reserve currency which is better than gold at the moment but not in my book.
