Sanders said AMD'd introduce K6-3D in 2Q98, CPU-speed 256KB L2 K6 in 2H98, demo K7 in Fall 98 in an 3/2/98 annual shareholder report. The annual shareholder meeting will be held on 4/30/98. Excerpts follow: "We plan to introduce a second, enhanced version of the AMD-K6 processor in the second quarter of 98. This product, code-named "Chompers," incorporates AMD-3D technology - 24 extensions to the x86 instruction set that offer significant improvements to the visual computing platform. AMD-3D technology enables independent SW developers to create apps that provide dramatic improvements in detailed 3-D imaging, smoother video playback, and near theater-quality adio while maintaining compatibility w/ SW written for the MSFT Windows OS. In the second half of 98, AMD plans to introduce a third, even more powerful version of the AMD-K6 processor, code-named "Sharptooth", that will incorporate further enhancements. Sharptooth will incorporate 256 KB of backside L2 cache running at the speed of the processor that will improve the performance of mainstream apps.[slot-A at-CPU-speed 256 KB cache K6 will beat slot-1 100MHz L2 Pentium II]. These enhanced versions of the AMD K6 processor represents our first products that offer differentiation within the MSFT Windows standard. This fall we plan to demonstrate the AMD K7 processor, a further differentiated product for MSFT Windows computing. With these new versions of the AMD K6 processor and the AMD K7 processor, AMD is moving into a new era: we are responding to customers rather than reacting to Intel."
