In the last few years I have followed Arakis Energy and can give some background on Mr. Peter Holstein.

Peter Holstein, BA was president of Arakis Energy International from October 1992 until he resigned in December 1996. He joined with
Odyssey in 1997 but I haven't followed him there. He has been a consultant to the energy industry, through Holstein & Company since
1983. He has an extensive background in financial services, and has also served as a general partner with a New York Stock Exchange
investment firm.

His resignation from Arakis was termed "difference of opinion" but was widely thought to be regarding the loss of options as compensation
for the brokering of Arakis' joint venture with CNPC and PETRONAS (?) Malaysia national oil company.

He does have a substantial oil venture background and even though the deal ended up with two gov't oil companies (and Arakis ended up
with 25% of concession) it was widely believed that the gov't of Sudan nixed a done deal with an American oil company at the last minute
and went with political allies.

Summary: This could mean his extensive backround with deals featuring CNPC will bring us a china deal or his successful talks and almost
jv with an American (I believe it was Texaco) will land us an American oil company partnership.

The one curiosity for me is ... why now ... why not several months ago when we all knew there were six potential partners looking at a jv,
why wasn't he needed to broker the deal then?
I think it's because they have selected a jv partner and now need to close the deal. He's done that before.

Good Luck to all ... esp us warrant holders
DAN

I am suspect about the timing of this announcement. Why now?? If GF is going to announce a JV partnership on Mon. then "retaining the services" of a consultant doesn't sound like a deal is made. Certainly, not by Monday. Well stranger things have happened with this company. I hope one day I can look back on this whole fiasco and smile while counting my CREAM.

confused and very long,
