You forget, DELL does not have the cash for such a fictious war that I have described.
Yes once the battle ends, things will return to "normal", but customers perceptions will be altered. they always are after siad events.
That is where the victory is.
Why will some companies always to business with IBM ? because no matter what happens, when you call them, they will answer the phone.
I am not saying that DELL could be put out of business, but undermining the publics confidence in a company through canabalization tactics can make you look like a prefered vendor. Especialy when you are still twice the size of the other company.

In CPQ case, most of the shareholder damage has alrealy been done. So, why not start now ;)
