I think msft deserves an extra rich p/e due to
their monopoly presence. How can msft lose money??
What other company dominates their market like msft does??

I bought at 83 at an all time high, but I was willing
to ride it out. Wait till win 98 is launched.

Jim

True,

But as long term holders it is fun to watch this all evolve. I guess it is good that MSFT gave that earnings warning for if they had not then what we have seen this past week in $ appreciation would be even more on earnings day.

The fundamental thing that I stay focused on is that the overall MSFT story is intact and getting stronger. MSFT continues to put out great products and form strong alliances with other companies that can do the same.

SUN and others will probably say that MSFT and INTEL and CPQ/DELL are not fair because they stole the NC idea and brought it to the WINTEL platform. The bottom line is that SUN et al. could not get the product out the door on time, with stable software at an attractive price. That is their own undoing, their failure of execution. SUN et al. will continue to remain unfocused, to not work together for their common good and MSFT will only get stronger. In 1999, NT 5.0 and MERCED will signal an inflection point in the Enterprise market and serve to mark the high water mark of SUNW's existence. From that point on, WINTELCPQDELL will chew into SUNW's margins, doubling in size while SUNW decreases in market cap 50%. I estimate that Phase I will be completed by 2003 at the latest. From that point on, SUNW is just a role player in the world of high tech.

IMHO,
Brian
