[UBS Report]

Thanks for the info. bill c. Do you know if this report can be viewed on internet? I could search for a while, but if you had an URL from looking at it yourself, it would be much appreciated. I would like to see it both for future reference as research source and I am also curious as to the timing of its release.

Do you still believe WSTL is frontrunner for the CLEC business? Do you believe that UBS is correct in its statements?

[fujitsu not orctf]

hi bill

thanx for posting the ubs stuff... very gracious of you...interesting analysis of cisco/netspeed angle..

have followed your posts on wstl thread for quite a while... appreciate your even-handedness and willingness to share info...

seem to remember that you were in orctf @ the ipo? (and it wasn't a great experience)

time will tell whether the gte stuff is for real for fujitsu/orctf and how significant the deployment will be... was really not expecting any progress in the usa for another year or so...

still find it curious that si discussions seem to be about orctf possibly winning... think the bigger picture is about fujitsu and their push into cyberspace... orctf on their own never had a chance... this seems to be about fujitsu, their expertise, relationships and gameplan... for the next century..

along those lines... believe there is lingering resentment/misunderstanding over "foreign" entry into us telecom markets... the rules have changed/ the technology has changed/ the playing field has changed/ alliances may have changed/ and maybe the players will be changing as well... very unsettling... for all... including analysts and others comfortable with biz as usual..

where will the "experts" go to find out about orckit (when events finally register)? the usual sources will know squat... pump orctf for info? good luck... probably not very satisfying.... stealth is biz as usual... these guys are hardcore/ battle hardened/ and have been playing with the big boys for years ... those who have lost will be very articulate and besides, probably commentator's buddies..

altho fujitsu is thousands of times more visible... that's not an easy one either... good tech... but not a telecom player til the 90's in the usa... playing a careful hand for long term... not an easy concept ... (inscrutible orientals etc)...

expect (if) we hear about a win in the next couple of weeks... that the line about price will be prevailing in commentary when/if news is released...

do not find the ubs conclusion re-assuring...

"...It is our understanding that Fujitsu/Orckit is coming in at very attractive price points which helped them win the business."

maybe, just maybe, fujitsu/orctf has a good product .. better next generation product in the pipeline... good silicon (maybe *best* on the way)... an integrated end-to-end solution .. (maybe) more significant partners to be announced ... other xdsl angles covered.. and at good price points...

sorry about the rant,
of course could have all this backwards,
long term this won't make any difference..
figure you'll understand and (oh well) its fri...
best of luck,
s
