<< Look, as long as they're making Orb drives and discs, this hurts EVERYONE else-IOM, SYQT, you name it. >>

Yes, I agree. Removable storage is a commodity, therefore there is
very little barriers to entry. The way to survive is to cut prices,
but cutting prices means no profits. A 10 P/E would be appropriate.

The story played out as predicted 2 years ago: "Iomega may become
the 'removable storage leader' but they will go broke doing so..."

Now they are stuck with old technology, cheap PCs as the norm,
and failure at penetrating enough of the market to matter. And even
if they did have enough of the market, does "joe sixpack" need more
than a couple disks? no wonder tie ratios fell...

This is a $2 stock. Look at IMPX.. Look at SYQT when they lost it...
IOM today is SYQT 2 years ago.

Have fun rock!

Rocky,

<Look, as long as they're making Orb drives and discs>

Reread the article. They aren't making them. They are trying to get someone else to make them. So far they can only get someone to make a few. They conveniently call them "beta". Who will ramp for them? When? Any solid commitments? No. Same as Clik!

<As long as I get my SCSI Orb drive with $29 media, I'll be a happy camper.>

Does it matter if it doesn't work? If it breaks after 2 months? If it loses data? SparQ is already notorious for losing clusters.

<Sy Ifkar(?), the founder of Castlewood Systems, also started Seagate and Syquest. This guy obviously knows what he's doing. >

Yikes! Those are the very two companies I will never buy a data storage product from. My Seagate drive suffered permanent media failures after 2 years of light use. And those data-lossy SparQ carts with their silly door straps, well, let's just say they have to be the chinziest looking "high tech" I've ever seen.

So bring on the orbs. I'd love to take a look and see if they are any good. But I won't fall in love with it before I even see it, like you seem to be doing again. If I recall, it was Zip, MO, CD-R, CD-RW, DVDs 1-4, LS-120, SparQ, HiFud and Quest that you have fallen in love with and discarded. Now you are in love with Vap-Orb. Let me count the minutes that will last.
