So Austin, tell me how you value a stock. Lay it out for us.

Greg--> After 23 years of investing I have found that perception is reality.

No disrespect, but you are very wrong about two things:
#1, that RealNetworks does not make a product that works. They are the best Audio Streaming product provider on the Net. If you know anything about the streaming industry, you would know this. Secondly, their video Apps are among the two best on the net. THE PROBLEM??
Takes us to:
#2 SPEED! You are right that speed is a problem. But your preception of the speed problem taking "Years.." to overcome is extremely wrong. AOL is starting to test market DSL in several areas. Cable modem availability and price are both moving in a very posative direction. Bill Gates has, rightly so, stated that 1998 is going to be the year for speed(increasing due to technological advances and implementation).
Whether RNWK is over valued some is a legitimate question. But your premise is way off in terms of time, and the products RNWK makes. Speed is the greatest bottleneck at this point...Have you run Real products over T1 / T3 connections?? Not perfect, but the point is that speed standardization are the greatest barriers at this point. RNWK's code is way ahead of MS code (the code it liscensed from RNWK). No disrespect meant, but do your homework.

As a web designer I have to say that Real gives the best product. The easiest to use, the easiest to adapt to different browser/plug in combos, different bandwidth. And I really like RealFlash. Their products have enabled me to be more creative and I really really like being creative, which is why I decided to buy in at 15. :-)

<It's a pretty cool product, but without higher speed connection, no matter how 'swoft' their product looks, it ain't gonna work well.>

It sounds like you've had a bad experience with trying to use some of their products. One thing you might want to keep in mind is that the quality of the video stream you get is dictated by the person who is sending it out. I have seen many good video streams, even at 28.8 (with voice only and NOT music), but have also seen bad ones. Both were set up by ME! So, I now it is possible to take a video source and either provide a decent stream at 28.8 and also take the same stream and send out a crummy one. It's not TV, but it can be a value far beyond TV. They DO make a quality product even at today's bandwidths. Of course, all of that is on the video side. Their audio-only streams are even better. BUT, you do need pentium-based hardware on your end if you really want to enjoy the video. Anything less just can't handle the load.

All that being said, it has nothing to do with why the stock is where it is today (IMHO). I really think most of the volume in this stock during the last few weeks know very little about the company and have never seen or heard one of their video or audio streams. They are buying a hot stock in a sector which they think is hot. Yes, in the long run, this is a good company with good products, but it has really been running very hard for a long stretch.

Those on this thread who are saying the stock is going to pull back may very well be right. Those who say this stock is good for the long a haul are more than likely right too.

Just to lay it out, I'm in at 18 5/8 and jumped in the first day. I'm not in the stock for the long haul. I like to trade. This stock is great for trading. It has all any one could want. If you look at it and feel it is a short, you've had plenty of opportunities to make money day-trading. If you look at it and feel it deserves a long position, you've been able to make money too. It hasn't mattered what you think about the stock. You've been able to make money.

I really like the company and their products, but none of that has anything to do with why I'm trading it now. It was only the reason why I considered buying it in the beginning.

Of course, all of this is just my opinion. I could be wrong and have been plenty of times.
