If I was unfortunate enough to be appointed CEO of Corel I would immediately terminate the NC program, terminate the OLAP program, layoff another 15% across the board, speaking of which, fire the board, and finally pull the plug on all local community programs and all local advertisement. The latter exists to create a fantasy world for the CEO in his home community despite his being the head of a cheezy software wannabeea with a market value less than a fancy New York appartment. Going forward, I would focus on a collaborative, general purpose diagramming tool with vertical market plug-ins and I would do that in Java. In other words, I would annihilate Visio and I would do it with a tool that used three dimensions as easily as Visio now uses two -- although they have a new 3D product. I would ensure that revenues from the legacy products were sufficient to sustain that effort and if they were not, I would lay off more people.
