LSI, will make their numbers. But what we need is for significant revenue and earnings improvement. All of this DVD future sounds great, but if LSI earns only .23 cents a share or less than a dollar a year, how can we trade beyond 30. The conference call needs to be very upbeat and bullish about the future, with conviction that the hype will translate into bigger numbers all around(revenue, margins, earnings). We are beginning to trade with a PE approaching 30, which means the street is anticipating lots of future growth, I hope we are not disappointed because it won't take much to retreat back to the low 20's. The recent upgrades are by analyst who are pioneers and are willing to take the risk of being wrong. LSI is a show me stock. Most analyst are saying Show me good numbers and I will upgrade you, but I won't take the risk on cheap talk about the future, been let down too many times in the past.

Steve,

> Do we lsi longs need to worry about a possible earnings surprise...

Oh but of course! But the surprise will be in the upside by at least a penny with a strong forcast of future business (and I would like to record as saying this).

You state:
> but am still paranoid.

That may not be so much of a bad thing after all! Andy Grove has this big sign in his office (so I hear) - which incidently Bill Gates has also a copy of in his office, again so I hear - that states:" ...and only the paranoid survived!"

Addi Jamshidi

PM: If your paranoid of being in LSI at a profit, you should not be investing in tech-stocks. One must have the stomach for the roller coaster ride your going to take when owning these issues. Just check the charts and the fifty two week highs/lows of tech stocks. Good Luck, hang in there and remember the greed/fear balance. Kashmir

Heheheh...thanks for sharing the name derivation, Steve (vbg). LSI's connection to Japan, IMHO, is much more of a possible concern than the SE Asia connection. And the Japan troubles could become quite a bit more severe, it seems to me -- that economy looks like it could be headed back into depression if their banking repercussions in SE Asia don't get fixed. It is questionable how much "real" equity some of the big Japanese banks still have. Bears close watching..
In the semiconductor life here, things could remain difficult for Intel somewhat longer than I had thought. How much bleedover there is to over chip companies, I don't know (not much?) Anyway, here is the article:
