Hi-
As you can tell my now I go on automatic pilot when I write..
in this short space of time..can't remember what was cut if..or
what the thought was..
thank you so very much for your kind wishes..
anyways..back to Year 2000...
so far in the little research I have done..Bemer seems to have one
of best solutions for year two thousand..go to bmrsoftware.com
checked it out with friend of mine who knows his assembler since he
started programming it in very early sixties..
Bemer has written software that goes into the object code and checks
the machine language for dates(eliminates some code that has arithmetic computations that are not used in date calculations)
Don't think high speed computers can help except for faster processing..one needs to find the actual lines of code that manipulate
the dates..we used to have an expression garbage in garbage out..
as your post started out..the problem is finding "each problem" in
millions upon millions of probably undocumented code..
finally found out where word "bug" came from..an early programmer
had a problem with her output..turned out an actual moth was in her
computer..after that "bug"..pretty neat...
(about your sister-in-law and a lot of other women and probably some
men..it is very difficult for people who have not had that experience
or who have not had close friends or relatives whom have been put in that position see the emotional suffering it causes and possibly how
it can disrupt careers..)
The major lesson I have learned this year is that most people like to
think well of themselves so when information comes in that can go
against their self image..they tend to trash the information and messenger in trying to maintain their own good feelings about themselves..they have to justify their own positions..think that
people who have a belief system where they are not at center of
universe have a harder time in rationalization.
