Thanks for the story. I saw it on another thread at SI.

It would not surprise me that GTE would do this, even though we still don't have hard evidence to support these claims.

To be quite frank I do not think that GTE is executing very well lately. I have phone service from them here in Washington state and I have to say that I've had nothing but problems from them with dial service. In the last year I've lost service about 30 times! I have two phone lines and sometimes they can't even keep one working!

I have talked with virtually all levels of the company and have gotten poor responses to my complaints. My patience is wearing thin. The days of the regulated monopolies are numbered!
I have driven back toward the local "switch" after my service has failed only to find "contract" workers" working on the line cutting "hot connections". The phone companies are now contracting out almost all of their work to try to save money, but the service has gone down the tube!

Cisco makes unquestionably the best hardware across the board and I find it suprising that they (GTE) are playing with Ascend equipment. It looks like the "cheapest" is the way to go! Cisco can guarantee end to end performance. I don't believe Ascend can do that.

sorry for my ramblings,

regards

Eric
