marc chatman Re: earnings surprises

messages.yahoo.com@m2.yahoo.com

The day of that post I purchased 200 AMD call contracts. 48hours later they were up for a 400% gain. I sold 25% of these which resulted in ~ 150 contracts free and clear. I'm still holding ~200 puts on Intel. I am expecting earnings surprises upside on AMD and downside on Intel.

mark,
i have added bbrc and mchp to my short holdings. mchp was up 5 on trs on the news that rev and eps would be down 10% below analayst expectations. i wenr short near 26 and made a buck on friday. there is another 25% to be made here. as for bbrc ( burr brown) they havent warned like practically every other semi co out there, but stock has topped a month ago and has a tough time cracking 26 ot the upside. still lots of downside left here. i am still short altr and xlnx as they have just began to fall. they are almost to the point where they break the last level of good support before the high twenties and low thirties are hit. lltc and mxim are good candidates as well. they are in a downtrend, but havent fallen that much.

lltc, mxim, bbrc, are all analog mfgs. there is less of a commodity atmosphere for their parts so they are always the last to fall. my favorite semi co in the world is mcrl( another analog guy). still effectively in an uptrend, but having a tough time with 40. volume has dried up, but it isn't falling yet. i wont short it as it is trading at a 50% discount to groth now, but i will be buyig on pullback to 25/28 levels. asia is now almost 40% of business so they should get hit this quarter, but i can't short my favorite company in the whole world.

marc,

MU is a top pick... I sold my April PUTS last week and have now gone w/ the July 30's...I also hold KLAC AMAT and MOT which I picked up during last weeks restructuring bounce. I believe MOT earnings will be released on Monday, so perhaps we will get a bit of forward guidance in the CC. I'm betting things aren't looking that rosy...

Marc,

Take a look at LLTC, the chart is similar to VTSS and is also triangulating. and it is only about 7 points off its all time high.

It is only a technical analysis not fundamental.

Triangles normally indicated that it is waiting for news to set the direction. It appears obvious that they are waiting for the announcements. After a triangle it normally surges in either direction depending on how the street interprets the news. In the case of VTSS and LLTC if the earnings or other news turns out bad, they should tank.
