Suggestion for AOL puts. Wait until the day after a big upswing. There's usually a few small down days before the next big push. This will allow you some time to look at the chart and for fear to sink in so that you can get out at breakeven or a small loss within 3 days. I made the mistake of buying my Oct 65's 5 days after a ramp, one day before the next one. You may think 5 down or sideways days are weakness. It may be weakness in normal times. But in AOL right now, 5 down or sideways days are just the means to suck in more short cannon fodder. Did you see AOL's Friday close? Was that institutions defending their stake or what? This really is classic mania and market manipulation.

OTOH, AOL did reach their "new" 12 month target of 75 and no one has had the nerve to double it yet. But that new Buy rec didn't help either. Imagine actually getting paid to start a stock as a Buy after it quadruples in a year. Guess it helps to simplify the selection criteria. "Fire all those programmers, just see if the thing has quadrupled."

AOL SCORES $40M EXCLUSIVE DEAL WITH BARNES & NOBLE
Subscription: $995 per year as of 1/97. Contact APT Data Services Ltd.,
12 Sutton Row, London WIV 5FH, UK. Phone 44-171-208-4200. Fax
44-171-439-1105.

Barnes & Noble.com has expanded its relationship with America Online
Inc's AOL to the tune of $40m over the next four years. The book
retailing giant's online subsidiary has signed a contract with AOL
Networks that will make it the exclusive bookseller on the 10
million-member proprietary online service. The two had a previous
agreement that made Barnes & Noble the exclusive bookseller on the AOL

Marketplace area of AOL.com. The deal gives Barnes & Noble extensive
placement throughout most of AOL's service, including links from the
various channels to Barnes & Noble titles in that particular area of
interest. But the most appealing feature of the deal for Barnes & Noble
is that it shuts the door on the competition, as other online
booksellers - such as Amazon.com - will be prohibited from advertising
on the proprietary AOL service for the term of the arrangement.
Amazon.com, however, remains the exclusive bookseller on AOL's web site
(AOL.com) and its AOL NetFind search engine.

Hello, Rehtt...your portfolio is none of my business, but I
feel that you should consider a lot of stuff before
buying your puts/shorts on aol -

1. Do you know the NYSE specialist system? If not, take
a "Random Walk" over to the Richard Ney thread;

2. Do you know how a specialist profits from your short
trade other than the "squeeze"? Stock Detective website
has an article on this, too.

3. You probably know that H&Q and the power houses are
treating this issue with white, pure silk gloves. Witness
how Goldie purchased 900k shares from Bertelsmann and
just slowly selling in 100k blocks so as not to flood
the market and thereby depress the price.

4. And lastly, time is not your ally with options!

Good luck Rhett, fwiw, I've been long on this since
Feb 97 at 18, post-split, while someone on this thread
is already 100% underwater on some of his short positions.
