i believe Oracle only missed their second quarter. comparing microsoft to Oracle, or any other company is not so simple - Microsoft owns a platform (perhaps monopolizes it?) and Oracle is an applications company. Companies that dont own platforms are at the mercy of the company that does - ala Netscape. Thats why Netscape, Oracle, etc. have tried to move the platform from windows to the browser or to java or whatever else comes down the pike. Sun is still strong because it owns a platform as well but clearly not as dominant in its space as microsoft is in its own (desktop, low end servers).

companies like Oracle and even COmpaq will be cyclical whereas microsoft will show the consistent growth which the analysts love - doesnt mean Oracle is a bad investment though or its going down in flames.
