An anecdote about Cybercash:

Last fall I was working at a large Web hosting company. At one point I got into a conversation with a guy in the Web commerce group, who said that he and others were working on the company's commerce strategy. I asked him about Cybercash, which they offered. His response was that they wanted to do something more involved, but decided that it would take too long to implement (months), and meanwhile customers were demanding an e-commerce app, so they implemented Cybercash in a couple of weeks while they worked on their larger plan. Now, a year later, they're still using Cybercash.

The announcement on Monday about Cybercash offering iCat-like capabilities on their own server is significant becase it makes using Cybercash even easier. At this point, the only real hurdle is getting a merchant ID number, which is easy for established businesses.

So as well as being a market share leader, Cybercash appears to be a leader in ease-of-implementation.
