The logic of these announcements baffle me. Does this statement indicate, "I was
WRONG when I said INTC would earn $4.17 for 1998 and $4.88 for 1999. But now I'm
right that they will earn $3.47 for 1998 and $4.21 for 1999, until and unless I change
that sometime henceforth!"


That is exactly what it said.

You have zeroed in on the fallacy of all these analysts. They react to current situations and make their predictions based on the most recent "spilled beans".

However, they never admit being wrong. They just "update" their estimates.

That is why they are analysts - and not investors.
