Really not sure how to evaluate the true significance of this news. At a minimum, however it demonstrates to me that SEEC's relationship with IBM continues strong. It also sends one more signal that SEEC is focusing its research energies at this point on post year 2000 business to assure continued strong growth into the new millennium. I have calls in to help clarify. Anyone else with insights? In any event, the market likes it. Stock is up 1 3/16. SEEC To Offer Support for IBM's Millennium Language Extensions In SEEC Smart Change 2000(TM) Renovation Tool SEEC Smart Change 2000 with MLE Offers a Smooth Migration Path for Existing COBOL Compilers to IBM's Year 2000-ready Products PITTSBURGH, April 9 /PRNewswire/ -- Today SEEC announced plans to develop an upgrade to its SEEC Smart Change 2000 renovation tool that will extend support for IBM's newly released Millennium Language Extensions (MLE) technology (patents pending). MLE are extensions to strategic year 2000-ready IBM COBOL compilers that enable applications to process two-digit years correctly in the year 2000 and beyond, without significant changes to the application programs. Using the date and non-date items within a windowing approach, MLE makes it possible to modify fewer procedure division statements, resulting in lower conversion time and less chance for human error. SEEC plans to develop an enhanced version of Smart Change 2000 that will be sensitive to MLE, enabling renovation of COBOL applications using MLE conventions in place of, or in conjunction with, conventional windowing logic. Ravi Koka, President and CEO of SEEC, Inc., stated, "We're very pleased to have the opportunity to incorporate this functionality into our Smart Change 2000 tool. Companies planning to support COBOL applications well past the millennium should benefit by migrating to strategic year 2000-ready compilers that support MLE, as this helps simplify the maintenance process. It is an elegant solution that could potentially be a boon to IBM mainframe customers." About SEEC, Inc.
