Promise..EIDE RAID......performance vs..?

The Promise RAID solution seems to be fast enough for real time video. I have no real time video editing/viewing capabilities with my present machine. I would like to add this function in my next machine if the hardware has advanced to the stage of an economical solution.

I believe the decision for this technology will not be based on performance. Performance and RAID capabilities make this card worthy of consideration. My thoughts center around the way it integrates into the system.

Comments and questions

1. Is "easy conflict flict-free installation;" anything like plug and play?

2. It will take one PCI slot (two slots for the 4+ drive array)

3. Promise FastTrack compares to SCSI, they do not compare to SCSI RAID.

4. IRQ's, system resources ( conflict free??)

5. Price is very attractive.

6. Will we see 4 x 8 GB drives as a 32 GB drive without any problems in Win95?

7. Is anyone using FastTrack...feedback?

8. If you need SCSI for other reasons, does it make sense from a design point of view to use two PCI slots?

9. SCSI RAID solutions are mostly NT based. I have not found an economical Win 95 SCSI RAID solution yet. So far this is the only RAID solution for Win 95 at a reasonable price.

10. SCSI solutions are more flexible and more upgradable with a larger user base.

Real Time Video data transfer rates

Perhaps I spoke too soon. I indicated Promise FastTrack's sustained data transfer rate ( up to 25MB/s sustained ) will work for real time video applications. The information from the Adaptec site calls that into question.
