Jules, I can't tell you the last time I have heard IBM referred to as a mainframe company. Only 5.3 billion of there 79 bin. came from mainframes.
Even so there is a need for them as the amount MPS required has gone and is going up dramatically.
It is hard to keep up with all the changes going on at IBM and info tech.

I pray that IBM doesn't visit any of the ballparks my other stocks call home. I wouldn't want to go up against them at home or on the road.

Hi Jules your Cisco holdings will benefit from IBM's PowerPC

Its mutually beneficial as IBM can supply ASIC chips for under $30 to be used in multi-application routers :

chips.ibm.com

IBM embraces "partners" like Cisco and can supply them with low cost chips (under $30)containing a 32 bit RISC instruction set:

arm.com

For instance in the airline application , which will replace mostly Raytheon CRTs , IBM will be able to add voice/telephone capability with additional PowerPC chips.

We used to compete against Cisco but they had a "better" IBM connection than we did and their incredible success was the result.

Jim K.
