Anecdotal evidence of DELL overpricing of PCs

I recently shopped for a PC. I ended up buying a Hewlett-Packard
with:

PII 266 MHz
32 Meg SDRAM
24 X CDROM
512 Cache
4 GB Hard Drive
56.6 Modem
(no monitor since I have several)

Price $1339.

Comparable DELL price $1612 plus $150. shipping and sales tax.
(I bought in Delaware since I live near the border and there is no
sales tax). For me that equaled a net savings of $423. for nearly
identical units. Something is wrong with this picture.
