I agree. I see no useful purpose to a share count. To begin with, there is no way to judge it's accuracy and, even if it was for a moment in time, there isn't anything to keep it correct.
Some of the problems that I have seen on other threads include: attempts to influence the price, a pecking order based on who has the most, division between large and small holders based on insecurity and fear, too much importance placed on comments by large holders, anger and enmity between shareholders as people sell, panic selling based on the previous three items.

JMO, but I see no good in this. BTW for each person that feels kinship with other holders of similar size there will be another that is made to feel inferior because he/she doesn't have as many shares and feels they are being pressured to buy more shares than they can comfortably afford.

One final thought, I am aware of a mailing of share holders in one particular stock being sold to a third party for advertising spam by one of the people on that list.

This is not an accusation or condemnation of anyone here.

I am open for comments by others.
