I would agree with what you surmise based on (IMO) The Merced being the GOLD, the SERVERS being the mines and the INTERNET being the fields. Likewise the various Software etc are the picks, shovels and permits which get them there! Anyone looking to strike GOLD today has to be thinking of the INTERNET. TTOSBT
