Hi
Did anyone of you see the article in BARRONS this week? it paints a pretty bleak picture for INTEL I will only try to give the highlights but I know I'm not good at this so please someone try to look it up and do a better job
First it goes on to say that the sub$500 PC is on the way and not the sub$1000 anymore, and how the disk drive makers have all plunged more then 50% because of the oversupply
Then it goes on to say that "Microprocessor report" a newsletter predicts that a oversupply in Intel-Compatibile chips are reaching to the same levels in the near future
He says that AMD will produce 30 million chips in 1999 and Cyrix will also produce even more (I don't know if its more then now or more then 30 million) and then IDT is entring the market and INTC is finishing 3 plants
And the oversupply can start as soon as this year and that will bring enormous price erosion with it
Also a alarming statistic that he points out from PC Data that the AMD market share in the sub$1000 PC market went from 18% in January to a whopping 49% in February while INTEL went from 65% to 44%

Sounds like Intel might be in deep doo-doosky. <G>
I've often wondered if there was a kid in a garage out there about to
turn the computer industry upside down.

Manx, Re: "Anyone seen this? Any reactions? Should we assume that Russians are coming? or what?"

BataMax? or VHS?, BataMax? or VHS?

It's all about MARKETING! Now where do you suppose all the chips (pun) will fall?

"New Russian Chip 20X faster than intel."

The Good news:

Maybe this sort of thing will make the anti-trust division back
off attacking INTC and MSFT,

The Bad news:

is that you have to program the new Russian chip in the Latvian
edition of C++

Manx - re: " Should we assume that Russians are coming? or what?"

I think they forgot to mention that the new circuits are fabricated with Vacuum tubes.
