Bruce: IMO the hottest thing these days is cash (t bills money market accounts). But you know I have been a bear lately. Lot's of people jumping into the 30 year treasury but with the yield curve so flat and the odds of higher inflation not quite at zero I would pass on them. This weekend in Barron's there were a couple of takes on the job report that indicated it may be a stat blip instead of signs of a slow down. If you want may take, (I am not an economist!) IMO the job reports does give some indication of a reversal in the economy but wage inflation should stay. So my forecast (likely to be wrong) is that we will see a softer economy, low inflation but higher wages resulting in lower corporate profits due to lower revenues due to the slowdown (yes even for co's not doing business in Asia) and lower margins as wages go up but co's have no pricing power. When and if WS catches up with this and if the orientals stop buying US equities like crazy we should see the market come lower.
