People do tend to be verbally hyperbolic nowadays, don't they?

Kids in the seventies ruined for me a word that had some meaning: awesome. It had some profound attributes. Awesome was what the star-filled sky was when you contemplated the magnitude of the universe. It was not to be used in praise of a sandwich or a car.

Now we see the metamorphosis of "literally" which has come to mean the exact opposite. Now "literally" means "figuratively". As in: "He literally destroyed Joe in that tennis match."

Knowing too much can be painful.
