Pushing for MPEG editing

For years, no one believed that full, I, P, B-frame-based MPEG streams
could be edited. But at NAB in Vegas on Monday, C-Cube
Microsystems will launch a single-chip MPEG-2 encoder/decoder IC
that the chipmaker hopes will drive an industry shift to an MPEG-based,
networked digital video environment. The chip can simultaneously
decode up to two streams, while it provides frame-accurate editing and
blending of the two streams, Junko Yoshida reports in EE Times. The
chip can also add special effects such as fades, wipes and dissolves on
the fly.
