Hey guys, about the tax thing for the third or fourth time:
1) it is an old story
2) it would take forever to pass
3) when AT&T gets worried about VoIP, it is real technolgy
4) when AT&T lobbies Uncle Sam, they are in trouble -- invest in their competitors (e.g., Netscape vs Microsoft)
5) even if a tax bill passes, DGIV-like companies can still undercut AT&T and make a bundle

Taxing issues must go through Congress and can be always be vetoed by Wild Willie (line item Veto is a reality), his sidekick Mr. Green Jeans has no power. Remember, just recently (last year) the supreme court ruled that the internet as a world wide communications medium should be allowed the highest possibility of freedom of speech. This was over pornography issues. However, we would be naive to think that they did not consider economics in their ruling. The internet is in utero and no one with half a wit wants to deter from its growth. It is unprecedented and will change the global community. Where will it be in 2, 5, 10 years? Who knows? Although the basic technology has been around for a while, the Internet is a baby to the economic consumer base and if you want a tax to be successful it has got to be on something folks can't do without, like Cigarettes, Sales, Income, and such. Items like luxury taxes, social security and such are different beasts all together. It is in the best interest of the government and Internet involved companies to keep it as cheap as possible for the time being. How do pushers get some people hooked? Give to them for free baby....
