VBH, this thread was started as a joke by j.garcia. I made the sixth post here, and have posted here occasionally ever since then. SI is a public place, and particularly with such hatred and intolerance being expressed on this thread lately, I think it is the duty of all who really care about racism, injustice and true evil in the world to attempt to clear a few of the cobwebs away.

Particularly this week, we are reminded of Jesus, and my personal belief is that He would be appalled and sickened by some of those who consider themselves His followers. Is everyone going to watch the PBS series, Frontline, which starts tomorrow in most cities? There is much new, very relevant archaeological and biblical research being done, and many historians are focusing on Jesus, so in the event you all are not aware of this fascinating series, here is an article about it:

In answer to your question about homosexuals, yes, I believe that homosexuality is genetic, or caused by hormone imbalances during the prenatal period. I think we are right on the verge of having this confirmed scientifically. Anyone who bothers to actually talk to a homosexual would discover that their sense of being different, and not being attracted to the opposite sex, is something they grow up with. Why on earth would someone choose this for themselves, risking pain, humiliation, isolation and tremendous hurt? Anyway, many biblical scholars would argue that it is prostitution, not monogamous homosexual relationships, that were unacceptable at the time of Sodom and Gomorrah.

It is possible to hate and fear, and interpret the Bible that way, or to interpret it in the way I think it was intended. Jesus taught love, acceptance, tolerance and understanding. Anyone not practicing those in ALL his or her human contacts is not acting like a Christian in a very essential way, in my opinion. And my opinion is just as worthy as yours, is it not? Frankly, I don't think Jesus would have any trouble with the topics I am discussing here.

For every study that says being a homosexual is inherited...I imagine there are studies that offer the contrary...

Actually not. Far as I know, all recent studies indicate that homosexuality is nearly always genetic. As far as anecdotal "evidence" is concerned, all of the gay men I know say they knew they were gay at a very early age.

23 And they began to inquire among themselves, which of them it was that should do this thing.
24 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest.
25 And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors.
26 But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.
27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.
28 Ye are they which have continued with me in my temptations.
29 And I appoint unto you a kingdom, as my Father hath appointed unto me;
30 That ye may eat and drink at my table in my kingdom, and sit on thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.

Welcome VBH and God bless you
