Just spoke to Tom Malik at Headstrong who is Chief Operating Officer. He was one of the original principals of the company and has been there since 1993. Had a good conversation about HDST - its past and its future.

It seems that he is working on the current problems facing HDST, i.e. He said they have satisfactorily worked out an agreement with their landlord and restructured their lease. He said they make a quality product and have a good market presence. They had been in WalMart in the mid-west but only had shipped helmets used for skating - not bicycles. Malik said helmets for bikes would be 4X the number sold as skates. WalMart stopped ordering because they weren't sure of a consistent supply - but the door is still very open (Malik emphasized this). Since they are in Chapter 11 they have to get past a few obstacles but Malik said they are talking to several companies that are interested in acquiring or merging with HDST. They are also talking to many potential investors at the same time. This would certainly add shareholder value and help HDST out of bankruptcy.

They are still shipping and doing $100,000-$150,000 a month to companies such as various retailers, many hospitals and to many non-profit organizations, i.e. Brain Injury Association. He likes these kinds of sales because there is more profit (no returns, no commissions paid and no boxes necessary, just plastic wrap). Malik said they are in a rebuilding mode - down, but definately not out!

Malik sounded very upbeat and gave me the impression that this is just a temporary situation which will resolve itself shortly...........
