...introducing the first interactive video online service for business. Users can access the Network
with Digitcom's PC-based IntraVoice video conferencing-enabled call processing product designed
to be a multiple-media communications gateway. Founded in 1987 as Digitcom Communications
Corporation by Jim Chin and a small group of talented software designers, Digitcom survived the shake-out of the voice mail industry with an aggressive pricing policy and an emphasis on custom design for tough system integrations and industry-specific applications.

In December of 1995 Digitcom's Interactive Video Network
operating group launched the first regularly-scheduled
re-broadcast of commercial television in association
with KWHY Television, Los Angeles. 1996 saw the first
use of video embedded in Web advertisements. The
DiV-N unit now has offices in Santa Monica, CA, an
administrative office in Las Vegas, NV, and a network
operating center in Honlulu, HI.

Whether this story is the "Directorate General" or DGIV is irrelevant - since it's an interesting story......
newsalert.com

On DGIV's paging & wireless site..
they talk about how they are selling paging "wholesale" I think they want to do the same with Pay TV over the Net :-) Whether it was actually them (doubtful - as it's probably the Directorate General (govt org.) or not is irrelevant... Fact is - they plan on getting into the pay TV arena in any case...

Found the "other" site interesting reading...re: wholesale prices for
paging services....

Most people will go to the local pager store for paging service.
Currently, we have customers with LOCAL service who live as far
away as Orange County, Valencia and even San Diego. Why do they
drive all the way to Santa Monica? It's because they've shopped
around and have found us as the "best buy" in the industry. Rather
than going to "Joe's " pager company, they come directly to the
SOURCE. Local pager companies all RE-SELL pager service at a
marked-up price. When you buy direct, your price is always
wholesale
. Other companies might initially charge you less money for
service, but they will make up their loss once they have you
"hooked."

Being a pager carrier means that we own all of the equipment and all
of the radio frequencies that your pager listens to. Coming to
Digitcom for service means that there is no middle-man, pushy
salesman, or a here-today gone-tomorrow pager company. Quite
simply, we've survived the "growing pains" of running a small
business and have lived up to becoming a corporation.

Digitcom has been in business since 1992 (Digitcom Services). During that period of time
we've grown from a small retail operation into a large corporation.
We've branched to four retail outlets in the Los Angeles Area
including one in the Del Amo Fashion Center. Not only are we a
paging carrier, but the carrier of a unique voice mail network.
Currently we are expanding our services into new markets that will
set Digitcom as the industry leader in wireless communication.

The IntraVoice
leverages Digitcom's long participation in three network
design disciplines: voice processing, data transmission
and digital video signal processing. The constituent
parts of this convergent technology together represent
the most vital and expanding sectors of high-tech.
Even discounting the contribution of telephone
companies, the computer online services, information
services and basic equipment sales covered by these
disciplines are a $25 billion-plus market.

Fully integrated with its award-winning voice processing
system, Digitcom's introduction of the IntraVoice
voice/video "multiple"-media server, along with a
subscription to the DiV-N Network, will give business a
video conferencing platform and a powerful online
server at the point of contact with the telephone
network.
