Gene - Re: "But if I were in the mode to buy a desk-top or notebook today, I know I can either wait a few months and get a PII/333 system for about half price,"

This is an old argument. Some people can wait - and always do wait.

On the other hand, MANY people need to make a purchasing decision and get the best bargain at the time.

The world doesn't put itself "on hold" as perhaps you do. Business needs to get done and computers need to be bought and deployed.

In case you hadn't noticed, time waits for no one - and delaying, delaying, delaying may save you money in the short run, but costs you valuable lost competitive position in the long run.

Of course, if your only use of a PC is to "Web the Surf" or type letters to grandma - use your old AM386 machine.
