Unfortunately we've already seen Bob apparently leave the aol ABC board due to it being used as a soapbox against him instead of legitimate questions. I also think I noticed over the years that one thing that bothers him a lot is callers lying to his screener. I would certainly hope he wouldn't let a few malcontents spoil things for all of us religiously spending our weekends listening to Moneytalk and rushing to our mailboxes for our Marketimers

Don,

I certainly agree with you that Bob "does not need this and he certainly does not deserve this." Bob has often applauded the intelligence of most listeners. Their perceptivenss and supportiveness in the calls following Jerry's clearly illustrate that they put Jerry's crude attempts into the proper perspective.

Bob's knowledge is ingrained into the minds of many people who will forever hold him in the highest regard. People like Jerry will be quickly forgotten and will have little impact on anyone beyond themselves.

If Bob does decide to retire, I hope that it is for the right reason - to "Die Broke," something that will be very hard with all his correct market calls.

the guy who stepped up to go blow for blow with the jerk who called himself "jerry" is the same solid , measured , caring guy who put many of us in tall clover over the course of this huge run. I haven't a doubt in my mind that "jerry" is the same pitiful creature who attempted to impugn the man on this thread recently. I heard the Brink say it goes with the territory. Let's hope he remembers the gratitude of the average enlistee before pulling the plug on the program.

I heard Bob say "It goes with the territory" followed by some other wise, calm words that made me think that DaBrink had reached another level where even his silly critics didn't bother him anymore. Hell, a president is popular if he wins by 5% of the vote yet you can count Bob's critics on one hand.

I've been spending too much time following some of Bob's other sage advice, swimming Saturday and Rollerblading Sunday, to hear all the shows this weekend. I have the shows on tape for my drive to and from "my hobby" which used to be called "my job". Anyway, I've been really worried about all the gains I've made and holding on to them with the high valuations and sentiment and fools buying Yahoo.....

...then I hear Bob's calm, reassuring words Saturday where he said something like "the biggest mistake investors have made is to get out of the market too soon". If Bob really thinks that a few Fools like "Jerry" will fool those of us smart enough to listen to and even record his show, then I misjudge the man as he would be underestimating us.

Besides thinking it was Rillinois, I chuckled as I thought it was really that nasal guy who is always selling heating oil futures trying to get even with Bob for destroying some of his best shark bait, er I mean customers!

best regards
Kirk out

First, it's good to see you back posting SI. I doubt if there'd me much disagreement with the point that - Your insights are valuable to all of us here !

Yes - a horrible thought ! In the Post-Bob Era, Brinker followers would have lost their market compass. Sure hope this happens later, rather than sooner. Brinker has a whole new area of the country (South Florida) to bring up to standard on investment knowledge and shark resistency. Then, he has stated that nothing would give him more pleasure than to call the next major bear market correctly.

It would truly be a shame if Brinker walked away from these serious challenges over some stupid egomaniacal jerk caller (Jerry) who plays a mean game of "I've got you, you S.O.B."

Maybe such future unpleasant surprises could be avoided if Brinker were more strict about caller questions conforming to those discussed with the screener. He could even announce the rule at the beginning of each program.

Don: Re: "Your point is very well thought out. We can only hope Brinker never reads these boards to see how many people like caller
Jerry are making it a fulltime job to try to catch him making
a forecasting mistake. He would be very wise indeed to just
pack up his bags and walk out of ABC forever and never again
have to face the likes of Jerry or anybody else like him.
He does not need this and he certainly does not deserve this.
And then, at that point, everybody who follows his advice can
go back to guessing which way the market is headed and when.
Meanwhile, Brinker can sit in front of his computer and
enjoy the investing process he has taught us for so many years.
I very much doubt we are going to have Brinker to kick around
for much longer. Look for him to be gone sooner rather than later."

I have seen you express these sentiments on this thread quite often. In fact, if I were to go back to the beginning of this thread, I bet I could find you saying the same thing at least a dozen times and Brinker is still on the air thank goodness. I have to tell you at this point that your continued posting of this sentiment will probably leave the mistaken impression with any crackpot that Brinker is one crank telephone call or post away from throwing in the towel. Well guess what then: every crackpot will make it his full-time job to be that crank caller or poster to take credit for Brinker's demise.

In any event, I doubt you believe that Brinker is some "delicate personality" who can't take any criticism even from the logically challenged. That is not the Brinker I heard on the radio yesterday. Jerry lied to get on the air but Brinker did not cut him off. Brinker did not get upset; he was very calm. He spent a great deal of time with that caller and let him voice his opinion. Why it is almost as if Brinker was expecting the call as anyone who reads this thread could have anticipated <g>.

Brinker does his show for one reason only: he enjoys it despite the drawbacks. Otherwise, he would have been gone at the end of last year when his contract expired. If he ever stops enjoying it, he will quit and walk away and there is nothing anyone can say or do about it except to say thank you and wish him well. I doubt Jerry will be the driving force. Jerry has been around in one form or another for years.

Re: "He would be very wise indeed to just pack up his bags and walk out of ABC forever and never again have to face the likes of Jerry or anybody else like him."

I believe that is exactly what "Jerry" and "Rillinois" want. I really don't know for sure, buy it certainly seems likely that these two folks (or perhaps "Jerry" is "Rillinois") feel a personal vendetta against Bob. They feel that Bob has harmed them personally. My original guess was that Rillinois is one of the "Bad News Bears" that Bob makes fun of from time to time; perhaps the "Lady Elaine," the "Georgia Bear," or "Mr. Bow Tie."

Regardless of the true identity of these individuals, I believe that they would like nothing better than to chase Bob from the public light. Hopefully, Bob can see the attacks for what they are and ignore them, much as one might ignore the pouting of spoiled children.

Best wishes,

I2

i hate to let you down, but bob is also guessing where the market is going based on certain probabilities. he does not know. those that follow bob follow bob's guesses. granted, they are founded on reasonable assumptions and have been very accurate to date - for which he should be commended. nobody calls them all - nobody can.

before we get too guruish, an avid si contributor, steve covin, was long compaq computer. he was a genius in his own mind. ;-) his famous last words were "compaq will make estimates this quarter." they announced the next day they would be close to breakeven. a bull market tends to make all bulls look like geniuses. however, most are not - though there are some.

nothing like a good bear to seperate the wheat from the chaf. ;-)

what do they say? past performance is not necessarily indicative of future results.

bob seems to be very fair and sound minded and relies on good analysis. clearly, he has been in sync with market psychology to date. however, things can change.

good luck...

btw, where do dabrink think interest rates go from here?
