re: <<What is clear is that Dell has Compaq against the ropes>>

2/3 of CPQ's consumer PCs ship with AMD chips now.
AMD will have 300 MHz parts available soon. That PC will be as fast as if not faster than a P II-266.
It is only a matter of time before big business start to buy these less costly machines. Asp's are under tremendous pressure in every facet of the PC arena, from PC's to scanners to printers to all kinds of networking equipment and storage.
It is only a matter of time before these pressures invade DELL's space.

NSM's PC on a chip, $ 400 PC. CPQ's current $600 offerings are more than capable of doing most everyday computing tasks. In short time, businesses with see these cheep machines for what they are, A great deal. Giant customers facing deteriorating earnings and revenue growth will no continue spend in the PC area as they have.
These are the things that are happening today.
DELL is not in a position to maintain their stellar record going forward. When they stumble, the game will be up. Is that Q1 or Q2, I don't know? But I do know it is before Q3.
