All I know is that the G3's were FLYING out of CompUSA this Saturday.

They are the machine of choice for Web Shops in Silicon Alley. Sure we use NT (Dells of course), but we ALL! have G3's. We use Dave software for mounting across the network.... Our folks LOVE them!!!

In the words of our Sys Adm:

"Yo dude, Linux kicks butt, but those G3's are fucking awesome!" (excuse the French)!

Hi Bill,

When my friend was in private industry his genetics firm primarily used SunStations and Macs as well.

Can you say a little more about your experiences with Virtual PC? What programs do you feel comfortable running on it, with say a 233 G3 Mac and VPC 2.0? I assume high-end stuff is still not recommended (as well as high-performance Windows games) but are you finding acceptable performance on basic productivity-type software?

I've got to assume that Apple has looked at bundling it. Either they were waiting for better performance (from both Connectix and from the PowerPC processors) or are worried from some sort of marketing angle. Of course Apple can't really afford to raise prices another $50 just for that bundled copy of Windows 95 either. I do sometimes wonder if these Windows Yellow Box API stories are true and that Steve and Bill have some sort of convergence planned, which will make VPC some sort of interesting footnote in the OS wars.

Marc

PS--I'm already starting to accumulate a small stash of interesting DOS and Windows games when they hit the bargain bin, figuring that with some combination of a fast Mac and VPC I'll be able to play them in 1999 or so. If I can find the time, that is.
