Frank,

I am also concerned about Microchip's move to direct sales. The reps provided the necessary support for the mid- and small-size customers that were and are the backbone of MCHP's business. Now that support will fall entirely on the distributors who all have conflicting microcontroller and E2PROM lines. I hope that Microchip doesn't adopt the bad habits of its competitors either.

I also agree that MCHP does not have the products, outside of the E2PROMs, that the large telecom/datacom or PC customers need. No one at those customers wants to hear about 8-bit micros or is willing to think about how they could design in a 12C508.

Sanghi has always thought big and that has worked for him so far. Someday, I'm afraid he will let his ego get the better of him. As a shareholder, I hope that MCHP can pull it off.

Richard
