Ha! Funny you should mention that. I actually was offered a job! The article I wrote appeared on Tuesday or Wednesday and I got an offer that Thursday from one of the Wall Street biggies. I think they just got people mixed up - but it was the first financial job I have ever been offered so perhaps this is more than just coincidence.

Brian Halla is a sales oriented type guy. So he shouts quite loudly. Looks like he is on to something though. Noted that Moshe Garielov, one of LSI's big boys has left the company. Not a big fan of big guys leaving but there is an article on techweb about it.

Semis and semi-equips are at good support levels, but the recent semi-equip BTB shocked me - 0.80. When TSO and I were yapping about the bad stuff coming for the semi-equips I said I thought the lowest I'd expect was 0.83 or maybe 0.80 but sometime this summer I figured - just because I did not think this semi-equip slowdown would produce 1996 type pathetic BTBs. Well looks like something really fishy is up! All the big boys - US included - are cutting back spending big time. This does not bode well. Perhaps the simple rationale is if you can't make any profits you don't have money to invest. Thus the PC related companies have sharply reduced profits and have no need to spend billions. Noted that both INTC and MOT have reduced spending by about 10-20%. Same with other smaller semis that I follow. Actually even more than 10-20%! But again the specialized boys are not showing these kinds of reductions - they are actually building! ALTR and I assume LSI will come through all right - but Japan is a serious problem for ALTR near term and probably for LSI soon. Also I remember one of the press releases from some other semis that came out with spectacular numbers but said that they cannot be ignorant of the difficulties of the goings-on at the MOTs and the INTCs of the world. These things have a trickle down effect and though I have no idea of the potential difficulties (I have about given up trying to sort through all the conflicting signals!) there are problems. I'm still hoping that LSI will not suffer as much. The strength in ATM networking, LAN ICs might buffet weaknesses in PC related areas. Then again even for the "computer" area maybe (big maybe) LSI will come through - SUN reported unexpected strength in workstation sales. Then again the other ASIC compaines have reported weaknesses in computer related areas. She loves me, she loves me not, she loves me, she loves me not....

Still hoding LSI for the long term. With the absolutely gorgeous weather in these parts, I am enjoying the cycling and the beach and parks and...
