Bay Networks and INS Rollout Nationwide Training Program; Technical and Product Training Signals First Major Step Toward Strategic Relationship

SANTA CLARA, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--April 6, 1998--Bay Networks (NYSE: BAY) and International Network Services, a worldwide provider of network integration and management services, today announced the commencement of a major nationwide training effort that will facilitate the growing strategic relationship between the two companies. Over the next several months, Bay Networks will train INS technical and sales staff on many of its leading-edge products and network solutions, which consist of routers, switches, remote access devices and network management systems, expanding INS's expertise in designing and supporting multi-vendor networks.

In addition, Bay Networks and INS are jointly working together to build a 100 Percent All Bay Networks Technical Solutions center in San Ramon, Calif. This lab will be an INS customer solutions lab and a Bay Networks training center for the many remote INS offices worldwide.

INS focuses on assisting Fortune 1000 companies that rely on complex, multi-vendor enterprise networks to operate and compete in their industries. Named by Deloitte and Touche as one of the fastest growing Silicon Valley companies for the last five years, INS counts among its customers Ford Motor Company, Bell South, Kaiser Permanente, Caterpillar and Sony Pictures Entertainment.

"Our business is reliant on our ability to recommend the best solutions to our customers. As such, it is critical that we build strong, unbiased relationships with the leading network equipment and telecommunications carriers in the world," said John Lloyd, managing principal of INS. "Increasingly, we see Bay Networks as a key part of our recommended solution set, and are enthusiastic about increasing our expertise on Bay Networks products. Together, the two companies have worked on several major customer wins, and a more tightly integrated relationship only promises to accelerate that trend."

"Strategic consultants are a critical element of our strategy to continue penetrating large enterprise customers," said Tonnie Karle, Worldwide Manager of Bay Networks Global Consultant Business Sector. "INS has proven to be a highly knowledgeable and valuable partner, and we are delighted to have the opportunity to enhance their understanding of the solutions Bay Networks offers to enterprise customers."
